| OUR HISTORY - 2005 to 2007
Beginning in July 2005 teenagers from the Isla Vista Teen Center and
UCSB Drama students collaborated to create a solo performance festival
at UCSB's Multicultural Center. The festival was the brainchild of
graduate student Judy Bauerlein, who said, "This is a way for the UCSB
campus and Isla Vista community to mutually benefit from their
proximity. Isla Vista teenagers improve their writing skills, express
themselves creatively, increase their self-esteem, and establish a
connection to the world of higher education. UCSB student participants
learn valuable leadership skills, hone their creative writing
abilities, and benefit from experiencing the diversity of the Isla
Vista community." (Click here for more info).
The partnership between UCSB and the Isla Vista Teen Center continued with the presentation of The Monument Project
in May, 2006. Under the guidance of Luis Alfaro, playwright, 10 Isla
Vista teenagers teamed with senior citizens and UCSB students to create
prototype monuments for their community. The Monument Project was
presented in conjunction with the University of California Institute
for Research in the Arts (UCIRA) conference hosted by UCSB.
In the spring of 2007, under the new name Nuestra Voz, local high school
students created a performance in conjunction with the citizen-scholars in UCSB's course Teatro as a Teaching Tool. The performance, entitled Mosaic, was produced on June 2nd in Embarcadero Hall.

| Nuestra Voz Summer 2011: A Triple Feature! July 22, 2011 This year, the teens split up into groups to create three unique independent plays. 1.
Superheros and Aliens, Oh My! was a spectacular science fiction story,
where superheros lack powers, aliens land their mothership in New York
City, and governors plot to take over the world. 2. The Crash
transported the audience to the Arctic, where a plane crash left a group
of penguin researchers stranded with limited food and water. Only some
of them make it out alive, but new friends are made along the way. 3.
Who Run The World? was a journey to a post-apocalyptic planet with an
alien invasion, and the classic battle of the sexes gets settled by what
else? A dance-off.

| 2010 - Una Historia of a Sleuth
Twenty-two
teens from the Isla Vista Teen Center teamed up with ten UCSB
undergraduates in the Theater and Dance Department to create an original
theatrical work. Una Histora of a Sleuth incorporated original live
music and dance choreography into a play written by the teens. The
whimsical murder mystery featured police chases, dance-offs, and a
Twinky as the unexpected villain. It delighted the audience, a nearly
full house at UCSB's Studio Theater.

2009 - La Obra De Teatro de Gente Distinta: A Play About Different People
On
July 24, 2009 Nuestra Voz, in collaboration with the I.V. Teen Center,
and UCSB Department of Theater and Dance presented a creative play about
the past, present, and future. Dancing, music, and laughter filled the
stage. The young actors from the Isla Vista community portrayed the
lives of many diverse characters. Some actors played youthful roles,
while others gave us a window into the future and adulthood. This fun
filled performance came to a close by bringing the audience on stage to
dance with the cast.
